A Message from Myanmar

Dear friends, guests and business partners,

We are aware that Myanmar has almost completely disappeared from Western media coverage. Henceforth, we would like to use this opportunity for a small update about the situation in the country.

Unfortunately, still no solution has been found for the extraordinary political situation into which the military leadership has plunged the country. Every day we receive reports about local conflicts, military clashes, bomb attacks and killings. The situation is conceivably complicated and the frustration and the anger run deep within the population. Both sides show no intention to take a step towards each other.

With the continuing Civil Disobedience Movement, numerous sectors in the economy, in health and education, are still on hold. In addition, an extremely slow vaccination campaign exacerbates the danger posed by the spreading Delta variant, which was first detected in India.

Myanmar is fighting on two fronts, so to speak – one medical and one political. The perseverance, the passion and the determination of the Burmese people cannot be sufficiently emphasised.

Thanks to all our partners and friends who have been accompanying us virtually with their support and words or encouragement during the past months.

We are still here and still standing and hoping that better times will come soon.
