CAMBODIA
A Sustainable Stay
If there’s something good about the new normal of travel, it’s the special attention travellers are ready to give to sustainability. Once a trend, it has now become a necessity. Bucket list destinations now go hand in hand with sustainable accommodation, and when it comes to Siem Reap, Cambodia, one property stands out…
Recognised as the best Luxury Eco/Green Hotel in Southeast Asia by the World Luxury Hotel Awards in 2019, Anjali by Syphon is one of the sustainability leaders among hotels in Cambodia. And no wonder, as the hotel was created specifically with sustainability in mind and is always working on staying as environmentally friendly as possible.
First and foremost, the hotel is powered by the sun – solar panels are used to heat the water supply and give energy to part of the property. And you’ll be sure to enjoy your bath guilt-free with the locally produced organic bathroom amenities, the hotel’s water saving system and the intelligent A/C in place. Plastic is a no-go for Anjali by Syphon – the hotel provides aluminium water bottles, and even the room key cards are made from sustainably sourced bamboo.
It’s not just the management that cares – the whole team is educated on the concept of environmental consciousness and fully supports it. Even the hotel’s suppliers receive plastic-free bags and containers for product delivery.
Anjali by Syphon supports small businesses and local sustainable NGOs, so in addition to your guest room’s sophisticated design, there’s something to be said about its meaning. For example, the bathroom amenity trays are made by Cambolac – a Cambodian company giving jobs to young adults with impaired hearing. The baskets are made by Manava, crafted by local Cambodian women who use time-honoured artisan weaving skills. And the bin in your room is produced by OSMOSE, an NGO promoting alternative livelihoods, environmental education and social support.
