Wings of Hope in Bali
Begawan Biji is associated with the Begawan Foundation, which has been actively involved in breeding and releasing the critically endangered Bali Starling since 1999.
Their conservation efforts are primarily centered in the village of Melinggih Kelod, north of Ubud in Bali.
Experience Begawan`s commitment to conserving the majestic and rare Bali Starling. Visitors to the farm can observe the Bali Starling in its natural habitat and learn about ongoing conservation initiatives.
Step inside the enclosures for an intimate encounter with these breath-taking birds, help with food preparation and capture unforgettable moments through your lens. Then, embark on a journey to a release site on Begawan’s farm, where you will witness Bali Starlings soaring freely in their natural environment – a truly inspiring sight as they are reintroduced to the wild.
On the other site, continue to venture your experience with an immersive foraging session at Begawan Giri Farm, handpicking fresh ingredients alongside local farmers. Relax with a refreshing drink at Begawan’s serene farm-to-table restaurant, followed by a delicious lunch at Begawan Biji, where the flavors of the local cuisine take centre stage. After a day of discovery, nature and connection, leave with a deeper appreciation for this incredible conservation effort.
Last but not least, the organization has modelled solutions to some of Bali’s most pressing issues and operate an after school learning centre providing quality education to rural children, a nature conservation program for a critically endangered Bali starling and a generative rice farming program in the village.
