Bangladesh
Metro Revolution
Bangladesh’s first-ever metro rail system, above and below the ground, is already transforming how Dhaka moves! Say goodbye to traffic jams and hello to smooth, breezy rides!
Dhaka’s first-ever Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), officially known as MRT Line-6, has been rolling since December 2022. This fully elevated line runs over 21 km from Uttara North to Motijheel, slicing through the city’s busiest corridors. With 17 sleek stations and trains zipping by at 100 km/h, any commute just got a serious upgrade.
But there’s more! Dhaka isn’t stopping at one line – six MRT lines are in the works by 2030+, aiming for 128+ km of modern metro tracks crisscrossing the capital.
What Makes It Cool? – Think Tokyo vibes with platform screen doors, solar-powered depots and stations so clean and stylish, you’ll want to Instagram them:
- Agargaon Station shines with a bold green exterior.
- Motijheel Station, opening soon, will be a cultural landmark.
- And Kamalapur Station? Get ready for Bangladesh’s first mega-transit hub connecting underground MRT, intercity rail and BRT – all under one roof!
MRT vs. Metro vs. Underground?
Globally, “metro” usually means underground. But in Bangladesh, MRT refers to both elevated and underground lines. By 2030, Dhaka’s MRT network will rival global metro systems. Clean, green and on time – welcome to the future of public transport in Bangladesh!
