Angelina visits Angkor
Angelina Jolie surprised fans by turning up at Angkor Wat in February this year! The Hollywood actress has returned to the Kingdom for the first time since the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020.
In other, and no less impressive news, the number of international tourists has seen a sharp increase by 125% to 159,546 in the first three months of this year, a positive sign for the tourism sector recovery since Cambodia announced to fully reopen the country in November last year.
Data from the Ministry of Tourism showed that in the January-March period, Vietnamese tourists topped the Kingdom’s tourism market list with 46,303 visitors, followed by Thai tourists with 39,615. Chinese tourists, with 12,804, ranked third while American tourists increased to 8,820.
Cambodia has relaxed entry rules to facilitate the travel and boost tourism, investment and trade since Mar. 17, 2022. The requirement for PCR negative test for COVID-19 within 72 hours before arriving in Cambodia and for rapid test upon arrival at the airport were removed.
Fully vaccinated arrivals are not subject to any quarantine, but those who have not fully been inoculated must be in a 14-day quarantine at the location designated by the Ministry of Health or competent authorities.
Meanwhile, the Cambodian outbound tourists were recorded at 30,410, up 452% compared to the same period in 2021. Cambodia’s high vaccination rate allowed the country to fully resume its socio-economic activities since November last year.
