Goodbye Paper, Hello Digital Entry

Starting October 1, 2025, India transitioned from paper disembarkation cards to an e-Arrival Card for all foreign nationals entering the country. This new digital process, announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), is designed to streamline immigration, reduce airport delays and align India with global trends in simplified border control. Foreign travellers will submit the e-Arrival Card online before their trip through the Indian Visa Online website or the Indian Visa Su-Swagatam mobile app.

Key details about the e-Arrival Card:

Who it’s for: All foreign nationals entering India for purposes such as work, tourism, study, or business.

Who is exempt: Indian citizens and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders are not required to fill out the e-Arrival Card.

What it asks for: Basic information including passport number, nationality, purpose of visit, and local address.

No document uploads: Travelers are not required to upload any documents for the e-Arrival Card.

How to submit: The e-Arrival Card can be completed online up to 72 hours before arrival.

Where to find it: The official Indian Visa Online website and the Indian Visa Su-Swagatam mobile app.

What to do with it: Travelers should print out or carry the digital confirmation generated after submitting the form.

Purpose: To eliminate the need for physical disembarkation cards, speed up immigration and improve the overall travel experience for foreigners.
