INDIA
Plenty to celebrate
India is a land of festivals and fairs – every region, every season and every religion has plenty to celebrate.
Celebrations centre around prayers, seeking blessings, exchanging goodwill, decorating houses, wearing new clothes, traditional sports and feasting. India also hosts a large number of contemporary events celebrating its culture, art, dance, music, food, literature and sports.
For instance, on 15th August the country celebrated its 75th year of Independence, which means “Azadi” in Hindi language. The “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” (Festival) is an initiative of the Government of India to commemorate 75 years of independence and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements.
The Ministry of Tourism has recently developed UTSAV, a portal that showcases the month-wise and state-wise calendar contents on festivals, fairs, events and online darshans across India to promote different regions of the country as popular tourist destinations. The website even provides access to live streaming from various places of pilgrimage.
