Wellness in the Forest
Vana is a Wellness Retreat nestled amongst Sal forest in Dehradun, close to the foothills of the Indian Himalayas. Vana draws inspiration from its literal meaning – forest – a place that protects, nurtures and nourishes, while providing space to discover and flourish.
Vana almost seems a contradiction – a forest touching it on one side, and nestled between the city of Dehradun and the hill station of Mussoorie. Over the years, the outside world has crept nearer to the 20 acre retreat, and yet just inside its boundaries, one enters a different world.
The Retreat’s neutral coloured walls are seen amidst its trees and orchards, with pebbled paths and stone walls cutting through, and bamboo groves gently swaying. Trees, plants, birds, monkeys, butterflies and insects all coexist in peace at Vana.
The private living spaces bring together various elements of the resort’s design philosophy: contemporary aesthetics, bespoke and natural materials, exceptional comfort, thoughtful lighting, design and simplicity. The 66 rooms and 16 suites on the estate look into the Sal forest or the gardens and fruit orchards, all with balconies or terraces. Sustainable materials have been used where possible, including bamboo flooring, FSC certified wood, and certified organic linen.
Individual Wellness Offerings
Vana is fortunate to be in India where wisdom, wellness, nutrition and food are seen interdependently. Its wellness offering, therefore, is based on Ayurveda, Yoga and Sowa Rigpa. Each person starts with a private consultation with one of Vana’s wellness consultants. A programme is then developed in line with the individual wellness goals.
Group sessions include yoga, meditation, breathing, music therapy, walks, hikes, cuisine and fitness. Indian musical performances, festivities and spiritual activities complement Vana’s Wellness offering. Vana also hosts retreats and specialists in-residence throughout the year.
Cuisine at Vana connects many aspects of Vana’s philosophy. Nature and ecology are forever present in how the seasons and the supply chain influence menus. Vana’s menus include vegetarian and vegan choices as well as mindfully sourced meat, fish and poultry. The cuisine team produces everything, from bread and butter to ice creams in their kitchens.
