LAOS

From Bean to Brew

This immersive coffee experience offers a rare journey from plantation to cup, combining Laotian coffee culture with authentic village life in the mountains surrounding Luang Prabang. The program begins early at 6:30am with breakfast at Sahai Coffee Shop, a beautifully designed café on Luang Prabang’s main street, where guests can observe a small on-site roasting machine and learn about local roasting techniques.

At approximately 7:00am, guests depart for Ban Long Lan, a traditional Hmong village located about 1 hour and 15 minutes from the city. Upon arrival, visitors are welcomed into the community and introduced to Hmong culture, traditions, clan structures and daily life through guided village walks and explanations by local hosts.

The experience continues with a guided walk into forest-shaded coffee fields, where guests harvest approximately 5 kilograms of coffee flowers in a natural, uncleared environment. A traditional lunch is then shared with the host family. In the afternoon, guests participate in a hands-on coffee transformation workshop, learning each step of the post-harvest process: pulping, washing, drying, hand-roasting, identifying coffee varieties and understanding the full harvest cycle. By the end of the day, guests gain a deep and practical understanding of Laotian coffee, rarely accessible to travelers.

The experience concludes back at Sahai Coffee Shop, where guests roast their own coffee and take home a personal coffee bag as a souvenir. Optional overnight stays are available in a simple village homestay.

This 100% community-based project ensures direct income for villagers through coffee production, homestays, guiding and trekking, supporting sustainable livelihoods and long-term economic stability.

Suitable for small groups (maximum 8 guests), families with children and travelers aged 20–60 in good physical condition.
