A Highland Haven in Borneo

Birthplace to the indigenous Kelabits, Bario is located in the heart of Borneo. Bario is a small village located in the middle of the Kelabit Highlands in the north east side of Sarawak. It is located close to the Sarawak-Kalimantan border, 178 km to the east of Miri.

The highlands are home to many Kelabits still living in traditional longhouses located in the centre of the Bario Highlands. There are only around 800 people living in Bario and they are mostly the Kelabit. Besides jungle trekking, there are a lot of activities offered including mountain biking, hiking, multi-day tracks and sightseeing. The area features various species of flora and fauna with bird species unique to that region.

In addition to its stunning natural beauty and highland vistas, the region is renowned for the warm hospitality of its locals. With a friendly greeting, they go out of their way to assist visitors in exploring the highlands and villages.
