Snorkelling with Dugongs
Embark on an extraordinary journey to snorkel with dugongs, the gentle giants of the sea, in the stunning northern Busuanga’s Dugong Bay. Home to over 30 of these majestic creatures, this picturesque, island-studded habitat is the largest family of sea cows in the Philippines. Our adventure kicks off near Calauit Island, where we pick up a native Tagbanua guide. This special touch honors the Tagbanua’s deep connection and spiritual affinity with the dugongs, as their habitat falls within the tribe’s ancestral territory.
We’ll sail along the coast of Calauit for about 30 minutes before arriving at the known dugong sanctuary. Here, we wait patiently for these enchanting creatures to surface. Once they do, it’s our cue to quietly enter the water, equipped with snorkel and mask, and guided by our Tagbanua and Tribal Adventures experts. Remember, we approach with respect and don’t chase or get too close to these gentle beings, which can grow to the size of a cow. Often, curious dugongs will come over to investigate us – we seem to provide some entertainment for them!
While sightings can never be guaranteed, the vibrant coral reefs, turtles and diverse fish offer their own spectacle. However, thanks to our collaboration with the Tagbanua, we boast an impressive 90% success rate in dugong interactions. So, the odds are in our favor! To top off this magical experience, we’ll enjoy a delightful picnic lunch and snacks on board.
Join us for this unique and thrilling encounter with the enchanting dugongs of Dugong Bay!
