Find Your True-Self
A temple stay is a unique cultural programme that allows you to experience the life of Buddhist practitioners in traditional temples, preserving the 1,700-year-old history of Korean Buddhism. This cultural experience opens the doors of temples to the general public, offering an immersive insight into the traditional culture of Korean Buddhism. According to a set schedule, participants can engage in activities such as praying, chatting with monks and sewing 108 beads.
Temple stay programmes aim to foster a deeper understanding of Korean traditional culture and Buddhism. Through chanting, meditation, conversations over tea and Buddhist meals, these stays offer a fresh perspective on life. The goal is for participants to discover their ‘True-self’ while staying at a temple.
Experience-oriented Temple Stay
For those seeking to immerse themselves in Korean monastic life, this programme typically occurs on weekends and includes an overnight stay. Participants can attend morning chanting, perform 108 prostrations, partake in Buddhist meals with traditional bowls and meditate. Cultural activities such as making a lotus lantern or prayer beads are also included. The specific activities may vary depending on the temple, season and participants’ interests.
