South Korea
White Winter Adventures
Hi, I’m Jonalyn, Travel Designer in the Philippines! I have a passion for traveling with family and friends, and during my downtime, I love playing with my 5-year-old nephew – he’s the best source of laughter and energy.
One of my most unforgettable trips was to South Korea during the winter. The trip was originally planned for 11 days, but thanks to a happy mistake (a flight booked earlier than planned), it turned into 13 days of adventure! This unexpected extension allowed us to include Busan in our itinerary, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
In Busan, we wandered through the enchanting Gamcheon Cultural Village, a place straight out of a fairy tale. Picture colorful houses stacked like blocks, captivating street art at every turn and breathtaking panoramic views. I even spotted the famous Little Prince statue, which added a whimsical touch to the visit.
Winter in Korea gave me the perfect excuse to try skiing for the first time. It was a bit of a challenge – okay, a huge challenge – but also incredibly rewarding. It’s not every day you get to glide (or stumble) down a snowy slope!
When it came to food, South Korea did not disappoint. The highlight? Tosokchon Samgyetang, near Gyeongbokgung Palace. Their ginseng chicken soup was so comforting and delicious that we just had to go back for seconds before leaving the country.
Another memorable experience was the DMZ Tour, where I learned about the history and division between North and South Korea. Standing on such significant ground was a deeply moving and educational moment, offering insights into a story that continues to shape the region.
South Korea swept me off my feet with its charm, flavors and adventures. It’s a place I’ll always hold close to my heart, and I’m already dreaming of the day I can return! Merry Christmas everyone!
