Bangkok Like A Local

Embracing Bangkok’s public transportation system is the ultimate way for a traveler to immerse themselves in the city’s rhythm and culture. This journey begins at a traveler’s hotel, conveniently located near an MRT station. With just a pass and several metro stops, one can easily travel to the magnificent Wat Pho, home to the impressive 46-meter-long gold-plated Reclining Buddha statue. Exit at Sanam Chai MRT station and reach Wat Pho within a five-minute walk.

Next, visit the grandeur of the Grand Palace. It’s just a tuk-tuk ride away or a leisurely 20-minute walk in the early morning. When lunchtime arrives, enjoy local Thai cuisine at one of the many restaurants along the Chao Phraya River, just a 10-minute walk from the Grand Palace.

After lunch, it’s time to experience the serene Wat Arun up close, which can be accessed via the Chao Phraya Express Boat, a convenient commuter service that smoothly bypasses street traffic. Board the Chao Phraya Express Boat from Tha Chang Pier and within just under 10 minutes, Wat Arun is just a few steps away.

From Wat Arun, a quick ferry ride back across the river leads to the bustling Flower Market (make sure to hop-off at Rajinee station), where the air is thick with the scent of fresh blossoms. Just a short walk away, the vibrant energy of Chinatown’s narrow alleys and street food stalls provides a sensory feast, showcasing a side of Bangkok that locals cherish.

Finally, as evening approaches, the journey concludes with a quick trip to the legendary Khaosan Road, the heart of Bangkok’s backpacker scene. Board the Chao Phraya Express Boat heading to Phra Arthit station and take in the stunning sunset views over the Chao Phraya River.
