UZBEKISTAN

From Ancient Capitals to

Contemporary Pubs

The history of brewing in Uzbekistan is relatively young. The Muslim population of Central Asia lived within strict religious restrictions and was not interested in beer or any other alcoholic drinks. Beer, along with other types of alcohol, entered these territories along with European influence in the 19th century.

Perhaps, Czech and German manufacturers were the first to significantly influence brewing in Uzbekistan. It was they who designed and built the first beer factory in the ancient capital of Tamerlane’s empire, Samarkand, at the end of the 19th century.

Since 1925, under the close attention of the best Czech brewers, the brewery was rightfully considered the best in the young Uzbek Republic and was named Samarkand Brewery No. 1. The Brewery has come a long way, eras and people have changed, however, the genuine taste of traditional Czech beer has always remained the same. Modern Samarkand’s ‘PULSAR GROUP BREWERY’ produces beer according to the best recipes and strict technological requirements of Czech beer.

The love of the amber coloured drink and increased tourists from all over the world have caused a growth in the number of pubs and bars in Tashkent and Samarkand – current and former capitals of Uzbekistan. You can taste famous Samarkand beer in Beer Street Pub and Sam Craft Pub in Samarkand, combining your love of history with the opportunity to cool off after sightseeing under the hot sun of Uzbekistan. Tashkent beer-lovers enjoy a variety of craft beer offered by modern type breweries. Visit Steam Bar or Irish Pub, or join our degustation excursion to the Craft Brewery and taste honey beer along with other sorts.
