Cruising the Mekong
Pandaw River Expeditions is expanding its Lower Mekong portfolio with an exciting new short cruise designed specifically for the travel trade. Launching in 2026, the three-night Saigon–Phnom Penh river cruise offers a seamless and scenic city-to-city connection between southern Vietnam and Cambodia’s capital, making it an ideal addition to existing Vietnam–Cambodia itineraries.
This compact yet immersive voyage follows the legendary Mekong River upstream from the vibrant energy of Saigon into the peaceful rural landscapes of the Mekong Delta before continuing to Phnom Penh. Designed for travellers who want to experience river cruising without committing to a longer expedition, the itinerary combines cultural discovery, authentic local encounters and the relaxed pace of life along Southeast Asia’s most iconic river.
Guests sail aboard the RV Tonle Pandaw, a classic Pandaw vessel known for its colonial-style design, open promenade decks and intimate atmosphere. With fewer than 30 cabins, the ship ensures a highly personal experience and attentive service. Accommodation includes comfortable staterooms as well as spacious Tonle Suites, which provide enhanced space and privacy for guests seeking a more luxurious onboard experience.
Despite its short duration, the itinerary delivers a rich selection of experiences along the Mekong Delta. Travellers can explore lush fruit orchards in Ben Tre, glide through mangrove waterways by traditional sampan and observe daily life in riverside communities. In Chau Doc, highlights include visits to floating fish farms and the striking Hang Pagoda on Sam Mountain. Along the way, guests have opportunities to visit lively local markets and meet artisans crafting traditional handicrafts, offering authentic insight into life along the river.
For tour operators and travel advisors, this new three-night cruise offers exceptional flexibility. It can easily be incorporated into classic Vietnam–Cambodia touring programmes, serve as a comfortable alternative to overland travel or introduce clients to the world of river cruising in an accessible way. Pandaw’s purpose-built shallow-draft ships allow access to smaller waterways and communities that many other vessels cannot reach, ensuring distinctive excursions and genuine local interaction.
