LAOS

The Bears of Kuang Si

Just 45 km from Luang Prabang, the breathtaking Kuang Si Waterfall is one of the region’s most iconic and refreshing destination, especially during the hot month of April and the vibrant Pi Mai Lao celebrations.

Spend a full day immersed in nature as you explore the cascading turquoise pools and lush surroundings. Beyond its natural beauty, this experience offers a meaningful opportunity to connect with wildlife conservation through a unique workshop led by experts from “Free the Bears” foundation.

Founded to protect some of the world’s most vulnerable bear species, “Free the Bears” has expanded its work across Southeast Asia and India, focusing on sun bears, Asiatic black bears and sloth bears. Through partnerships tailored to each country’s unique challenges, the organization supports a wide range of projects across Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. Although these countries are geographically close, the threats facing bears differ significantly. In response, “Free the Bears” implements diverse conservation strategies, including environmental education, sustainable livelihood programs, strengthened law enforcement, research initiatives and the protection of wild bear populations.

During the workshop, you’ll gain insight into the lives of rescued bears, learn about the conservation efforts in Laos and beyond, and hear the powerful stories behind the bears living in the sanctuary within the falls area. The experience concludes with a special enrichment activity, where you’ll help prepare and provide stimulation for the bears; an unforgettable and impactful moment.
