Mid-Autumn Festival The Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival returns after two years of virtual celebrations as Singapore loosens the mandatory mask rules and travel requirements. This year, the festival is back to full physical capacity with the streets lighting up with beautiful lanterns, together with a food fair, stage shows and a bazaar. The theme of this year’s festival is “Blossoming Flowers under the Full Moon”. There are larger-than-life sculptures of mooncakes from various Chinese dialect groups in Singapore including Cantonese, Hainanese, Hakka, Hokkien and Teochew. The illumination takes place from 7pm to 12 midnight daily. The former Chinatown Food Street has also been transformed to its first-ever host to the festival’s food fair, with over 16 stalls selling street-style delights including burgers, fried sausages and tutu kueh. There are also free stage shows presenting a line-up of performances perfect for the whole family, from a demonstration of the ancient Chinese art of Mask Changing to Chinese cultural dances and dialect song presentations. We recommend that you include Chinatown in your itinerary when planning your trip to Singapore and be amazed by what this heritage neighbourhood in this modern city can offer.
