Games of Heritage
The World Nomad Games, held in Kyrgyzstan since 2014, stand as one of the most unique international cultural events, celebrating the heritage, traditions and athletic spirit of nomadic civilizations. In 2026, Kyrgyzstan will once again host this festival, bringing together athletes, performers and spectators from across the globe.
The first World Nomad Games were held in 2014 on the shores of Issyk-Kul Lake, bringing together athletes from more than 20 countries. The event immediately attracted worldwide attention for its spectacular competitions such as kok-boru (horseback goat polo), traditional wrestling, mounted archery, eagle hunting and yurt-building. But beyond sports, the Games also revived folk music, storytelling, cuisine and craftsmanship – turning the event into a full cultural festival.
Games 2026
The event will take place from 31st August to 6th September 2026, combining sporting competitions, cultural events, folk music and traditional craftsmanship. Only the opening and closing ceremonies will require paid admission fees; all other events and competitions will remain free of charge for visitors. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place in Bishkek, at the modern Azattyk Arena, promising a vibrant start to the Games with performances, national delegations and traditional rituals. The closing ceremony will be held in Cholpon-Ata, a scenic lakeside town on the shores of Issyk-Kul Lake, offering the perfect setting for the final celebrations.
With its blend of ancient traditions and contemporary spirit, the World Nomad Games 2026 will once again showcase Kyrgyzstan as a cultural crossroads and one of the most exciting destinations in Central Asia.
