MYANMAR

Discover the Deep South

A collection of more than 800 islands known as the Mergui Archipelago can be found in Myanmar’s southern Andaman Sea. The pristine islands vary in size and are renowned for having a rich marine life and immaculate white-sand beaches.

The easiest way to get to the region is by using the Kawthaung-Ranong border crossing point. There is no need to fly from Bangkok to Yangon and then take another domestic flight down to Kawthaung. The Kawthaung – Ranong border is officially open for tourists and guests can start applying for their visa online: Myanmar eVisa (Official Government Website) (moip.gov.mm)

Our suggested routing through Ranong:

There is a daily flight between Bangkok and Ranong with AirAsia (1 hr & 20 min) and guests can enter and depart Myanmar via Ranong without any trouble. Pick-ups and drop-offs at the Ranong Airport can be arranged. It is then a short boat ride across the border to Kawthaung.

From the Kawthaung Jetty, embark on a one hour and forty minute luxury speed boat ride to the Wa Ale Resort which is scheduled to reopen in October 2023 and is presently welcoming reservations. The resort is nestled in the Lampi Marine National Park and surrounded by a pristine marine ecosystem and rich jungle habitat.

These flight times will be perfect for the boat transfers to the island at 2pm from Kawthaung Jetty and 8am from the island back to Kawthaung Jetty:

Arrival: Air Asia FLT departs Don Mueang (DMK) at 11:40 and arrives at Ranong (UNN) at 12:55.

Departure: Air Asia FLT departs Ranong (UNN) at 13:25 and arrives at 14:35 in Don Mueang (DMK).

The transfer process is the same as always. The resort will help guests with the immigration for both Ranong and Kawthaung (guests need to go through immigration in Kawthaung if they come through Thailand).

  • Travel time from Ranong Airport to Ranong Immigration Jetty is 20 to 30 minutes
  • Travel time by boat from the Ranong Immigration Jetty to the Kawthaung Jetty is 20 minutes
  • Travel time to & from Wa Ale to the Kawthaung Jetty by luxury speed boat is 1 hour & 40 minutes
  • Boat transfers from the Kawthaung Jetty to Wa Ale depart by 2pm
  • Boat transfers from Wa Ale to the Kawthaung Jetty depart by 8am
