Poon Hill ‘Sunrise’ Trek

If you’re short on time but still have a burning desire to trek through Nepal and observe the beauty of snow-capped mountains, then book onto  the Ghorepani Poon Hill trek.

This is one of the most popular treks of the Annapurna region. The short five-day trek offers some of the most amazing, uninterrupted panoramic views of the great Himalayan Range.

It is also known as the Annapurna Sunrise Trek as another of the highlights of this trek is the beautiful sunrise over the Annapurna Range from the top of Poon Hill (3,210m). On a clear day you can see various mountain peaks including Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Tukuche, Varaha Shikhar, and Lamjung Himal.

What’s more, Poon Hill trek is suitable for travellers from all ages including families, although a good level of fitness is still required. It’s also the ideal choice if you are visiting Nepal for less than two weeks – and you don’t have to worry about altitude sickness.

The route passes through beautiful rustic villages including Ulleri, Ghorepani, and Ghandruk. There is something to be discovered around every corner, whether views of snow-capped mountains, dense rhododendron forests full of birds, terraced slopes, paddy fields or lush vegetation.

The best time for the Poon Hill trek is from September to December and from March to the middle of June. During these times the temperature is moderate and the sky is often a beautiful deep blue with clear views. May is a great month as this is when the rhododendrons are in full bloom.
