TAIWAN

Taipei’s Greatest Hits

If Taipei had a ‘greatest hits’ day trip, this would be it. Buckle up for a fun-filled escape to Taiwan’s wild and wonderful north coast, where waterfalls, lanterns, quirky rock formations and steamy hot springs all compete for your attention.

First stop: Shifen. This charming little town is famous for its railway tracks running right through the village and its sky lantern tradition. Scribble your wishes, light the lantern and watch it drift into the sky – it’s equal parts magical and slightly addictive. Just around the corner, a short walk leads to the impressive Shifen Waterfall, often dubbed Taiwan’s “Little Niagara.”

Next up is the ever-photogenic Jiufen. Perched on a hillside overlooking the ocean, Jiufen is a maze of narrow alleys, teahouses and street food stalls. Think taro balls, steaming dumplings and views that seem straight out of a movie set. It’s the perfect place to wander, snack and soak in old-world charm.

From there, the landscape takes a dramatic turn at Yehliu Geopark. Here, nature has been busy sculpting surreal rock formations over thousands of years. Keep an eye out for the famous “Queen’s Head” – but honestly, half the fun is deciding what the other rocks look like.

And just when you think the day can’t get better, it’s time to unwind in the lush mountains of Yangmingshan National Park. Swap sightseeing for serenity as you sink into a hot spring resort, surrounded by misty hills and volcanic landscapes. It’s the ultimate reset with zero rush.

One day, four unforgettable experiences – and a whole new appreciation for how much Taiwan can surprise you.
